Eigentlich wollte ich schon ewig darüber schreiben – ursprünglich habe ich davon letzten November gelesen -, aber irgendwie hab ich’s einfach vergessen. Über Bruce Schneier stieß ich auf diesen Artikel eines Mannes, der als Ghost Writer tätig ist und von Seminararbeiten bis Doktorarbeiten alles schreibt – sehr lesenswert!

Noch krasser ist allerdings eine Geschichte die Schneier selbst erlebt hat: drei Studenten haben einfach ein Paper von ihm und zwei anderen Kollegen kopiert, minimal verändert und erfolgreich in einem Journal eingereicht. Zu diesem Thema schreibt er: “I don’t blame the journals for letting these papers through. I’ve refereed papers, and it’s pretty much impossible to verify that a piece of research is original. We’re largely self-policing.”

Und das Fazit, das in dem ersten Artikel steht, der sich um Term Paper dreht, kann man auch auf Doktorarbeiten übertragen, wie man in Deutschland mitterweile gesehen hat: “Fundamentally, this is a problem of misplaced economic incentives. As long as the academic credential is worth more to a student than the knowledge gained in getting that credential, there will be an incentive to cheat.”

Abstract

SOAP is the protocol used most often in web services communications. Implementations of the Web Services Resource Framework (WSRF) use SOAP as a communications protocol as well. Performance analysis’ for SOAP toolkits have been performed for various cases and toolkits but WSRF implementations have generally not been taken into account. This work compares the SOAP performance of three WSRF implementations, namely UNICORE 6 WSRFLite 1.8.6, Globus Toolkit 4 Java WS-Core 4.2.1 and Apache Muse v2.2.0. The benchmark results give a clear indication on how implementations fare performance-wise and can be used to decide which implementation is to be used, especially if performance is an issue.

Hab’ gerade die camera-ready version eines Papers für die MEDES 2009 hochgeladen – 2 Stunde und 49 Minuten vor der Deadline, wenn das keine Punktabzüge gibt. N.B. Meine erstes Paper als Erstauthor, yeah.

Wenn man ein Paper über SOAP Performance und dann dieses Paper über Soap performance zitiert? Ich bin mir nicht sicher…
